In the '13-'14 season the CSSC board decided to combine U15 players with the U16, U17, and U18 so that we would have enough players for a U18 division. We were reluctant when making that decision since it would mean 14 year olds playing with 18 year olds. At the time the only other alternative would have been to release the older players. We didn't want to disappoint those players who had already registered, so we felt it best to combine them.
During the season the board discussed the decision and the future divisions at multiple meetings. There were also discussions held with BVYSA leadership about the subject. For safety reasons we have decided that we would not be combining more than two age divisions together to make up a CSSC division of play. We will have U5, U6, U7B, U7G, U8G, U8B, U10B, U10G, U12G, U12B, U14, and U16 in the 2014-2015 season.
The division changes above mean that we will not have a U18 division this year. There was a combination of 22 U16 (which would be U17 this year), and U17 (which would be U18 this year) who were registered in the spring. Even if all 22 were to register this year there would barely be enough to form two 11 player teams and they would have to play against each other on a weekly basis. We hope that these players will continue to enjoy playing soccer in the BCS Adult Soccer League. For more information about the league please visit bcssoccer.com .
In summary, this decision has been made for the safety of the players in the College Station Soccer Club. We feel that combining two age groups together is acceptable. Combining three or four together creates to large of a size, strength, and ability gap to be safe. A secondary decision to not have the U18 division was made because we anticipate having less than half the players that would be required to have a U18 division. We hope that advance notice will allow players to explore other options for the fall.
